I think I really messed up my life this time. After 3 years in a unsatisfying job, I quit. More like, quit trying and didn’t have my contract re-newed. It’s totally my fault. Looking back, I was lazy, cut-corners, and complained and criticized to anyone who’d listen. It’s been almost two weeks and other then going to apply for unemployment and one trip to the grocery story, I haven’t left my house. I’m sinking in my couch and killing time online doing stupid stuff.
Being lazy is how I got into this mess. Now, I feel so defeated and regretful that I can’t manage to pull myself out of this place. The job market is dismal where I live. I’m so stupid for screwing this up.
How can I snap out of this? Will this regret for my screw-up stop me from getting something better?

Employment concerns in this day and age can certainly take a toll. Living in North America, we are used to a certain standard of living, certain conveniences, and view hardship differently than they do in other parts of the world. So, when we lose our steady form of income, it takes an enormous emotional toll in addition to the direct financial consequences.
So, you are likely feeling defeated because of regret, looming hardship, and the guilt of perhaps taken for granted what so many others would have been grateful for.
Not sure what part of the country you live in, but there is such a thing as employment/career counseling. You need that. The longer you remain cooped up in your house, the harder it will be to find the motivation to get back out there and pound the pavement. Treat job searching as a job, where yo dedicate 8 full hours a day to the tasks associated with looking for work. Resume writing, scouring classifieds, going for interviews. Looking for a job IS your job until you find a new one.
I am also a big advocate of entrepreneurialism. When you have nothing to lose is probably one of the best times to take a risk on yourself. You’d be surprised how necessity is the mother of invention.
Best of luck – and please get back on your feet……..and get off the couch!
