Aisha Tyler is a stand-up comedian, actor, author, environmentalist, TV personality, podcaster, and then some. From the moment she shifted gears from corporate life to comedy in 2000, Aisha Tyler has blazed a trail that continues to heat up the entertainment industry.
To look at the leggy beauty and all of her accomplishments on and off camera, it’s hard to believe she’s ever known anything but success and glamour. But the truth is, she used to cut classes in high school to go study at improv venues in San Francisco rather than endure the emotional torture of her peers.
Part of that torture was the fact that she’s been six feet tall since the second grade. In an interview with People magazine, she referred to herself as “gigantic—[I was] this Godzilla kid” with crushing self-esteem issues. Fortunately for her, and for her adoring fans, she found an emotional release in comedy, where she learned how to re-shape the painful events of her past in a way that helped her heal and make people laugh at the same time.
These days, Aisha Tyler shrugs off the challenges of being a progressively witty woman in a predominately male genre by staying fresh, funny and real. She admits she still experiences the kind of stage fright that makes her nauseous before every show and openly owns up to doubting her talent sometimes. Fans love that she blasts past her comfort zone in such public and hilarious ways that give us permission to laugh–and let go–right along with her.
For showing strength in vulnerability and being a smart AND sexy woman to watch, Aisha Tyler is a Girl Who Gets It.
